Reading Specialist
Talk School is seeking a part-time reading specialist to join our collaborative team of professionals. Expected hours are Monday-Thursday, 9:30am-1:00pm. This position officially starts on September 3rd, 2024, though participation in one week of training in July with our current reading specialist is preferred.
The reading specialist will support the literacy program for students ages 3-21 including the administration of assessments and their use in instructional planning, delivery of small group and individualized instruction, collaboration with other members of the teaching staff, and communication of progress with families.
Responsibilities:
Administer, score, and analyze reading skills assessments
Collaborate with teachers, OTs, and SLPs on IEP goals
Provide small group and individual instruction
Monitor progress on IEP goals and on curriculum-based assessments to guide instruction
Share knowledge of best practices and guide staff on how to best support students’ reading programming in the classroom
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Reading Instruction (or related field) required, Master’s degree in Reading Instruction preferred
Three or more years of experience as a reading specialist or reading teacher preferred
Certification in Wilson or Orton-Gillingham preferred
Knowledge of the Science of Reading and best practices that align with reading instruction
Experience administering and analyzing reading assessments
Excellent organizational, communication, writing, time management, and interpersonal skills
The ability to collaborate and co-teach with other members of the staff
Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development
